I just retired and have always wanted to learn fly fishing. I looked around and after much checking decided on this starter package. It has everything you need to get going. Not knowing much about the equipment myself, I asked the guys at the anglers club that I had joined. They all agreed that it was a pretty good deal. I did want a spare spool for the reel and called Wild Water directly. I actually spoke with Eric Dodds, the owner, who was a great help. He sent me a spare spool at a reasonable price. I would highly recommend this package.

I didn't want to spend more than a $100 for a portable fly rod & reel, so after researching, I selected the Wild Water Fly Fishing Complete Black Starter HX6-090-4 package. Good quality rod, reel, and case. The storage case also includes a small zippered side pocket for fly box storage. Great for hiking. Received excellent service from both Amazon and Wild Water. Fast shipping. Very satisfied.

i'm new to fly fishing so i took a 2-hour lesson with a professional guide and decided to not rush into the fly fishing shop to hand over my monthly mortgage payment for all the 'stuff' you 'need. '
did some online research and found lots of good reviews for Wild Water as a company and for this combo kit specifically. took it with me on a family vacation in VT where they had a two catch&release ponds stocked with trout (i think i scared the fish with all my practicing, which was ok in my book since just the casting alone was fun). very compact size with a sturdy case makes this ideal for travel by car or plane. appreciate the 3 flies that came with it as well as the spooled up reel. overall, i've used it more than a dozen times in less than 3 weeks and i'm loving the experience. free shipping and no tax is always an Amazon best bet!

I'm the biggest skeptic there is about "beginner" kits of anything. This one exceeded my expectations. Sure, you're paying more for this rod and reel than you would a $50 cheap-o at Bass Pro, but you get a good quality rod, a decent reel, and it's all ready to go. The rod has good action. . . it's pretty whippy, so it takes time to get your cast down. Practice with it for a couple weeks and you'll be in great shape. Note that the "warranty" isn't a "break your rod, send it in, get a new one for free" type. . . you have to pay something like $30 for a new rod. It's still better than buying a new one at an outfitter, though.

The case is nice, and it gives you a little peace of mind when throwing the thing in your trunk.

If you're new to fly fishing like me, I suggest you get a few things in addition to this rod and reel.

1) a fly box. . . you can get one from bass pro for $10 to $15 and they're really nice to have

2) additional flies and floatant. . . you get three flies with this kit and they're pretty pathetic quality.

3) additional tippet and a couple leaders. If you're like me, you'll get knots in your tippet and leaders, so it's good to have back up when you just can't get those knots out!

4) a beginner's book about knot tying (or watch some online videos. . . tons of good instruction on YouTube)

5) a hat that protects your ears; also get sunglasses that cover your eyes well

I travel a lot and I'm a beginner fly fisherman. I didn't want to break the bank and this medium action 4 piece was perfect for travel. I can even leave the line on and put the real in the case, a HUGE benefit for me. I haven't caught a fish on it yet (i know sad) but I don't feel like a complete idiot when I whip it out around experienced fly fisher buddies of mine.

I know of a good site that will guide you from level 1 to level 99 fishing by giving step by step instructions with all the details:
http://runescape.siteguides.net/guides/skill/fishing/#n20to35
I used it to get 86 fishing, its quite usefull.

You can start fly fishing at level 20.
You can catch:
Raw Trout at level 20
Raw Salmon at level 30
Raw rainbow fish at level 38
Use feathers as bait and a fly fishing rod to catch fish. I like to do this east of Barbarian Village.
